5. Blacksmith Demon -- Terrifier 3 (2024)

Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 splattered onto our screens the Christmas before last, with Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) returning to Miles County some five years after his last visit and reigniting his unexplained blood vendetta against Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera) and her family.

This time around, Art has his previous victim Vicky (Samantha Scaffidi) on side, and a whole sackful of new toys and tricks to use on his prey. Dressed as Santa Clause, he stalks Sienna while wreaking hell upon the town, including blowing up a shopping mall Santa’s Grotto full of children… So, no, even though these films are now playing in mainstream multiplexes, Leone hasn’t dialled back on the shock and gore.

One of the film’s most terrifying moments, however, comes not from Art or this hellish, possessed incarnation of Vicky, but from a vision Sienna has in the middle of the film. Glimpsing into somewhere that looks a lot like hell, Sienna witnesses what appears to be the forging of her demon-slaying sword by a ghastly, orc-like monster. We have no idea what this thing – or indeed what the weird, plastic-faced Virgin Mary-like figure keeping him on a leash – is, but we don't want to see any more. It leaves us with so many questions and new fears, all of which will hopefully be resolved in Terrifier 4.
