Lucius Fox, Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Dent, Alfred and Rachel Dawes: that's only a handful of the characters that are integral to the narrative of the Dark Knight trilogy. What makes Batman's world so approachable regardless of which media you find him in is his humanity. Batman can't shoot lasers out of his eyes, fly or emit a frosty breath from his gullet. No, the Dark Knight only has his physical training, gadgets, wealth and friends to rely on in times of crisis. We already know that certain members of Batman's entourage will be returning - most notably Jeremy Irons as Alfred - but just how important are they going to be when he's not just fighting a crook, but an almost invincible alien? Bruce Wayne may be the man under the mask (and the one doing the ass-kicking), but without his close friends, the vigilante would be nothing. With Superman being essentially self-sufficient (why have confidants when you're almost invincible?) and only really having Lois Lane and various other employees at the Daily Planet as recurring members of his world, it's going to be hard to find a balance for both superheroes.
