10 Things We Expect To Happen In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

3. Steve Rogers Will Be Killed

Chris Evans signed on for six Marvel movies when he became Captain America. He€™s already appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That means he€™s already through half of the movies (his cameo in Thor: The Dark World does not count towards that total). Evans will also reprise the role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America 3 and likely Avengers 3. After that, it€™s over. While it€™s possible that Evans could renegotiate his contract, he recently stated his desire to retire from acting and work behind the camera, so it€™s doubtful this will happen. With that in mind, it€™s likely that Cap will meet his maker by the end of the MCU€™s Phase 3, or maybe a little bit afterwards. In the comics, Cap€™s death occurred after 2006€™s Civil War event. While it was later revealed that his body had been suspended in time (gotta love comic book science), his €œdeath€ struck the Marvel universe hard. While it€™s possible we may see Civil War someday adapted for the silver screen, I don€™t think Cap€™s death will happen the same way it did in that story. Although with Frank Grillo playing Brock Rumlow, a.k.a. Crossbones, in the MCU, they could incorporate him as Cap€™s assassin as he was originally thought to be in the comics (it was actually a hypnotized Sharon Carter). It€™s likely that that during the final battle of Avengers 3 (more on that later), Cap will go out in a final blaze of glory, and it won€™t be one of those fake deaths. This will be permanent. As much as the MCU embraces its comic book roots, there needs to be a sense of realism in that the heroes could die at any moment. With few exceptions, there€™s never been a superhero movie where the main hero is killed off. The MCU needs to get it across to the audience that though these characters are iconic, they€™re not invincible. Cap€™s death would send an emotional ripple effect throughout the franchise and be the catalyst for a new era of the MCU. Not to worry, though. Cap€™s legacy will be inherited by another.
