10 Things We Learned From Marvel's 'Assembling A Universe'

8. Marvel And Edward Norton Still Don't Like Each Other

During the evening's special, one glaring omission stuck out like a sore green thumb: no footage of Edward Norton was shown during the recounting of The Incredible Hulk. Considering the film's content, it was both extremely easy yet quite difficult to showcase a film about a split personality with a plethora of footage. Sure enough, the evening's first glimpse of Bruce Banner was during the Avengers recap, with Mark Ruffalo's recasting officially taking centre stage. This is completely understandable, as continuity basically demands that we forget Norton and replace him with Ruffalo in our memories. Regardless, Marvel could have done one of two things to ease the transition: show a little bit of footage from Norton's performance (but not too much that they'd have to explain things) or intercut footage of Ruffalo's performance into the Hulk segment, so as to completely sell the continuity. Either was a simple fix, but unfortunately it looks like the bad blood between these two creative types has left a bit of a mark on this chapter in the franchise's history.
