10 Things You Need To Know About The New Harry Potter Film

By Audrey Fox /

6. The Screenwriter: JK Rowling

JK Rowling is one of the most popular novelists of our time, both with her own name and under a masculine pseudonym. Her Harry Potter books have sold over 400 million copies worldwide, and her non-Harry Potter work, significantly more adult, has been relatively successful as well. In one hundred years, when they talk about literature in the early 21st century, they will almost certainly be talking about her. But while she has had a fantastic career writing in book form, this new film will mark her first venture as a screenwriter. She handed over screenwriting duties on the rest of the Harry Potter films to Steve Kloves (except for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was written by Michael Goldenberg), so it will be interesting to see how she adapts to this new medium. Given her talent for world-building, it seems likely that she will find the transition to writing for a visual medium creatively rewarding.
