10 Things That Should Be Banned From Cinemas Immediately

2. Terrible Films

Cinemas will show any old pap as long as it makes money. It's just the way the business works. Most of us won't get to see the intriguing stuff that might make us actually, I don't know, think, but hey ho, maybe it's OK that Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland gets to make $1 billion worldwide instead. Still, if this is just how 'the business works', then how come cinema takings are sharply dropping? Piracy, TV and the internet are the oft-repeated reasons, but what if bad films getting all the screening space is also putting people off? No matter what, the public will always want to see quality on the big screen. If all they're given is the same meatheaded garbage repeated time and again, then the "I'll wait for the DVD" attitude so many now favour will only increase. Some form of quality control would help, not just for the sake of saving cinema's reputation. There needs to be a little bit more intelligence higher up the cinema ladder, not just yes-men that ask "how many times an hour?" when the studio demands Wrath of the Titans - and not the new Nicolas Winding Refn film - be shown on a constant loop.
