You might be hard pressed to find anyone whose a fan of movies and does not know the name of Josh Brolin with titles under his belt such as No Country for Old Men and Men in Black 3. However, his father, the famous James Brolin, tried out for the part of Bond back in the 80s when Roger Moore stated he was interested in leaving the role (his only films left to make were Octopussy and A View to a Kill). The producers loved Brolin's screen test and worked with him very closely to bring him into the role of Bond, but in the end it just didn't work out. And it never will, because James bond is most certainly not an American in any way, shape, or form. Leave the Americanisms to that Felix Leiter fellow, Bond is purebred British. Why an American will never be Bond? If such a thing were going to come to pass it would have already transpired by now. Despite some good choices it didn't happen back in the day and with studios biting their nails down to their armpits in pre-box office nervousness it sure as heck is never happening now. For example, take a guy like young Burt Reynolds. Back in the day he was practically the American Bond already. He could drink, smoke, gamble, kick butt, womanize, and drive fast cars while shooting guns just as good as any limey. He even sort of looks like Connery (plus sideburns) in the picture above. But alas, take a look at the one below. Why will an American never be James Bond? This is why.
