5. The Visual Effects Budget Was Only $1 Million

The art style of this film is done almost as if it was a B-movie horror film. The effects are not perfectly executed, and they look almost tacky and far too fake.

Part of the reason Burton took this approach was because he was only given a US $1 million budget for the visual effects, in a film that arguably requires visual effects for it to translate well. With scenes involving Beetlejuice’s scary faces, Delia’s artwork, and even the sandworm, these visual effects were necessary.

Thus, he created the tacky, and yet masterfully done, B-movie style of film that we all adore and love. This makes the film equally engaging, and charming, making an atmosphere that everyone can get into.
