Mystique is able to adopt the appearance of anyone she wishes, down to their retinal patterns and fingerprints. However, she has never had any issue understanding the languages spoken by those around her. This has led many readers to assume that her powers extend to a level of omnilingualism, able to understand the language of anyone she comes into contact with in addition to copying their appearance. However, the issue has rarely, if ever, been addressed directly, and it is currently unknown whether this is actually a part of her power set or simply a bi-product of having lived for so long in so many different countries.
