2. Some Obscure Characters Will Be Highlighted Too

With Sony having access to potentially thousands of characters linked to Spider-Man, not everyone who receives the spotlight is going to necessarily be spider-themed or directly linked to the webbed warrior. That's evident from the fact the studio has been developing a film based around Nightwatch.

Introduced in the pages of Web of Spider-Man #97, Dr. Kevin Trench discovered an older version of himself wearing a superhero costume and that led to him donning the suit and setting off an adventure to change his fate. The potential for an amazing movie or TV show is definitely there with a premise like that, and while there are a lot of underwhelming possibilities for future projects, no one will complain if Sony can make something great out of a hero like Nightwatch.

The vast majority of fans are hoping to see Oscorp and the Sinister Six become part of Spider-Man's world, but expanding the SUMC with unfamiliar faces (something that's paid off for Marvel Studios over the years) could ensure that this is a shared universe which lasts.
