10 Things You Need To Know About Sony's Spider-Man Universe Plans
10. The Future Could Be Female For The SUMC
Silver & Black was supposed to be a team-up movie featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat, but the pieces never fell into place due to "creative differences." As a result, it was later reported that they would receive their own solo films. Given their lack of history together in the comics, that makes way more sense too.
At the time, it was also revealed that there are plans for Jackpot and Silk to receive their own movies. Two women have held the Jackpot mantle, but neither of them were particularly exciting, and fans lost interest in the character when it was revealed that she wasn't actually Mary Jane Watson (the prevailing theory at the time). As for Silk, she received her powers from the same spider that bit Peter Parker, and there's definitely potential for Cindy Moon on the big screen.
Since then, the trades have also confirmed that a Madame Web project is being developed, though we're not sure what Sony could have planned for the elderly blind woman who happens to be a clairvoyant. If there's one thing that's clear, though, it's that female superheroes could be a huge part of the SUMC moving forward. There's also one more big name we'll get to a little later in this post who fits that description...
