10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Netflix

1. It Is Completely Changing The Way TV Shows Are Made

The way services like Netflix deliver content has changed our viewing habits dramatically. With entire seasons of TV shows available all at once, it€™s given rise to long, lazy Sunday afternoons binge-watching the latest high-stakes Dramas instead of mundane things like gardening or spending time with loved ones. However, it€™s not just our viewing habits that have changed as a result of online content delivery. It€™s the shows themselves. Netflix claims that because the internet allows viewers the freedom to watch shows at their own pace, there€™s no longer any need to keep audiences hooked week to week. An episode no longer needs a cliffhanger ending in order to encourage the viewer to wait for the next instalment, they can simply move onto the next episode. Netflix also doesn€™t limit content creators to 30 or 60 minute weekly time slots. The way shows are traditionally broken up into self contained segments is no longer necessary, meaning a season can more resemble a 10 or 15 hour long film than a TV series. This means that what, on the surface, just appears to be a more convenient way to watch old episodes of 24, is actually completely revolutionising the way in which new TV shows are being written and produced by their creators.
