Just looking at the image above should be enough to prove my point fairly conclusively. Willem Dafoe's Power Rangers armour, complete with the sort of gaping mouth-hole that you'd usually see on a theme park mascot, looks more than a little dated 15 years later and James Franco's snowboarding apparel should have been aborted before it left the drawing board. Dane DeHaan's latest attempt falls closer to a reboot of The Leprechaun from the B-Movie horror of the same name than Spider-Man's greatest adversary, and with his bare face showing it robs the character of the surprise reveal of being someone so close to Peter. Granted the Green Goblin is a hard foe to make look scary in the confines of a realistic world, and it's difficult to imagine a rubberised ghoul mask cutting the mustard, but that's where the excuses end. Both Dafoe and DeHaan's portrayals at least have a plot or production based reason for looking the way they do but neither really works better than the other, and Franco's outfit never looks like more than a cynical a grasp at action figure friendly design.
