10 Tiresome Directors Who’ve Done Nothing New In The Last Ten Years

By Jack Pooley /

10. Oliver Stone

Known For: Winning two Best Director Oscars for his work on Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July, as well as directing a number of entertaining political pics, such as JFK and Nixon, and the highly controversial Natural Born Killers. The Last 10 Years: Stone has mostly run on autopilot, directing a number of potentially provocative projects that nevertheless lacked energy and incisiveness. His dull Alexander was a notable flop, World Trade Center was well-intended but corny, W. gave its Presidential subject an unexpectedly easy ride, Wall Street 2 was relatively watchable until that terrible ending, and Savages was a waste of time (again, with an awful ending). What We'd Love To See: Another angry, acidic political drama. We know Stone has it in him.
