Well, this... this trailer (or is it a teaser?) makes Star Trek Beyond out to be some kind of wacky comedy flick, something that Simon Pegg - who stars in the movie and also co-wrote the screenplay - rushed to tell fans of the franchise that it's most certainly not that. Simon Pegg is a great guy, and probably not a liar, but that doesn't mean we can trust him completely; he has a lot invested in this being a super massive hit, after all. Anyway, the tone presented in this trailer is very odd, and completely grates with what you'd expect a Star Trek movie - even a Justin Lin-directed Star Trek movie - to feel like. There's a song by the Beastie Boys, for one, and a f*cking motorbike chase scene on an alien planet. If that's not weird enough, make room for some questionable CGI and the fact that there's no plot in the trailer at all. None. Just a few jokes of the hit and miss variety. If there was ever a time to be concerned about a Star Trek movie, this is it. Sorry, Si.
