Before Midnight was without question one of the best films of 2013, yet due to its low-stakes, quiet nature, it ended up being shut out of most major awards, which seems like a travesty. As with the previous film in the trilogy, Before Sunset, it'll have to settle for a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination for Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, despite probably being the strongest screenplay in the category itself, if not in the entirety of the year's movies. The award itself is almost certainly going to go to 12 Years A Slave (it would frankly be bizarre if the movie won Best Picture but no screenplay award), though right up until the envelope is opened, I'll be crossing my fingers for Linklater and co.
