10 Most Underrated 90s Teen Movies

5. The Faculty

Rotten Tomatoes: 54% From director Robert Rodriguez and Scream writer Kevin Williamson, The Faculty is a wildly entertaining high school horror that, true to Rodriguez's sensibilities, doesn't take itself a might too seriously. With a cast of high-schoolers including Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Jordana Brewster and Clea DuVall, who come to believe their teachers (including Robert Patrick, Famke Janssen and Salma Hayek) are being body-snatched, the movie is an excellent show-case for its actors both young and older. Superbly paced, stingingly funny and also genuinely quite terrifying, The Faculty is a clever, postmodern pastiche of an Invasion of the Body Snatchers-type scenario, complete with witty characters well aware of the genre's conventions (in true Williamson style) and typically exuberant direction from Rodriguez. It may not be perfect (the finale is a little too tidy), but it's a boatload of fun, and remains one of the director's best, most under-appreciated efforts to date.
