2017 has been a unique year for cinema. In just 12 short months, we got an unprecedented amount of quality Stephen King adaptations, a Thor Movie that was actually good, and a Star Wars film that is either a revolutionary chapter for the franchise or a betrayal of everything fans hold dear (depending on who you ask). Whether you think this year was chock full of gems or turds, it will certainly go down in history as a memorable one.

When you get right down to it, a movie is only as powerful as its scenes and sequences. So, in this article we picked a selection of scenes from 2017 movies that left our jaws on the floor, or at the very least, gave us some meaty themes to chew on as we walked out of the theater.

Whether they are action scenes, jump scares, musical numbers, or even bizarre cameos, these scenes are all perfect examples of what made these films great. And of course, many of these scenes contain massive spoilers for some of the best movies of the year, so you've been warned.

10. Tequila - Baby Driver

Of all the scenes on this list, Baby Driver's was the easiest to list. The scenes in this zany heist film are arranged like the tracks in an excellent mixtape. So walking out of the theater becomes an exercise in asking your friends which track was their favorite. Was it Bellbottoms? Brighton Rock? Egyptian Reggae?

Perhaps the scene that best typified Edgar Wright's experimental action comedy is the Tequila Gunfight. It's a classic "deal that goes wrong" scene, but the gunshots play out in perfect sync with the Latin infused instrumental beats. The scene is also a critical crisis point for the characters, where we get to see Jamie Foxx's wild card Bats go ham on a group of corrupt cops, perfectly setting the audience up for the third act reveal about who the actual antagonist of the film is. Not only that, we finally get to see how effective Darling and Buddy work as a team.

Not every gunfight is as fun to listen to as it is to watch, and this scene is a perfect example of an action comedy director at the top of his game. Equal parts ridiculous and awesome, this is the kind of scene we watch Edgar Wright movies for.
