It was with this misguided masterpiece that M. Night Shyamalan announced himself as the modern king of the "so bad its hilarious". Someone should have shut this down at the casting; it features Mark Wahlberg as the worlds most unconvincing science teacher and his wife, a wide eyed Zooey Deschanel trying her best not to be twee. That clearly passed the rigorous testing phase, but quite how anyone then someone greenlit a plot that involves the world committing suicide because mother nature felt mean is beyond me. And of course the hilarity doesn't even there, because humanity doesnt just take a few pills and go to sleep quietly on the sofa... oh no, instead they throw themselves under lawn mowers, as plants enact their bloody revenge. John Leguizmo tries to out-bad-act Wahlberg here as part of a cast of loony characters, but Betty Buckler wins the award for casually saying Why you eyein my lemonade?" from her rocking chair. Every line here seems to be delivered with a dumb incomprehension, with barely anyone reacting with any sort of authenticity.
