10 Unmade Comic Book Movies That Could Have Been Awesome

2. Sinister Six

It may seem strange to see the word 'awesome' thrown around in conjunction with the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, but Drew Goddard's Sinister Six could have been just that.

Talked up by the producers as a redemption story, Goddard admitted that Sinister Six was a passion project for him, comparing his script to The Dirty Dozen and Reservoir Dogs by having protagonists the audience could root for despite them being morally questionable characters, as opposed to a one-dimensional narrative told from the villain's perspective.

It seemed as if the pieces were falling into place perfectly; the movie had a November 2016 release date and half the cast was seemingly confirmed with Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Chris Cooper and possibly even Andrew Garfield and Jamie Foxx reprising their roles from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Of course, the entire Spidey universe was forced to hit the reset button once Sony reached their licensing agreement with Marvel Studios and the Sinister Six was project was dead in the water.

As the director of the genre-defying Cabin in the Woods and Academy Award-nominated writer of The Martian, Goddard has shown a flair for turning genre conventions on their head and delivering great entertainment in the process, and missing out on Sinister Six is a major missed opportunity for both the filmmaker and comic book fans alike.
