10 Unmade Comic Book Movies That Could Have Been Awesome
4. Joe Carnahan's Daredevil
Another director who seems to drop out of 99% of the movies he signs on to, Joe Carnahan was at one point developing a Daredevil reboot that would banish all memories of the 2003 Ben Affleck-starring misfire. However, he couldn't get the project up and running before the rights reverted back to Marvel in October 2012, and the Man Without Fear is now the star of a critically-acclaimed Netflix series instead.
Carnahan's pitch for the character was a ballsy one; a down and dirty, hard R-rated trilogy that would take place in 1973, 1979 and 1985 and use both trends in music and the social climate of New York at the time as a backdrop to the story. The filmmaker even created a brief sizzle reel outlining his vision for Matt Murdock's costumed alter-ego.
A period superhero flick would instantly give Carnahan's Daredevil a unique hook, and it would have beaten the violent, profanity-laden likes of Deadpool and Logan into theaters by a couple of years. A quick glance at his filmography shows that Carnahan definitely possesses the talent to pull off a violent, crime-ridden, Serpico-inspired take on the material, and his ideal casting choice of Joel Edgerton as the title hero would have been an inspired move.
