Anything is better than the CGI Lizard that Marc Webb and Rhys Iffans ultimately showcased in The Amazing Spider-Man. The version we got was unimaginative, cheap-looking and failed to ever suspend audience disbelief. There was never a moment when The Lizard was on screen that viewers werent thinking about how naff the CGI was. Ian Joyner and Scott Patton of Legacy effects came up with a far better version of the character during the concept art phase. Its amazing how much better it looks without those odd-looking bloodshot eyes and the creepy curls at the corner of the final versions mouth. A bit of shadow, some darker colouring and a bigger nose make Joyner and Pattons Lizard far scarier than the one that made it into the final film. Perhaps, if the Lizard had looked like this in the film, The Amazing Spider-Man wouldnt have been bashed by comic book movie fans and film critics as much as it was. A cool villain can make a big difference, after all.
