2014 was a bit of a mixed bag for comedy on the silver screen. Sure, there were some very funny films last year. The Lego Movie surprised just about everyone with its wit, The Muppets Most Wanted and 22 Jump Street were worthy sequels and The Grand Budapest Hotel enchanted everyone with its whimsy. Then there was the bad, ugly and unfunny side of 2014's comedy output. Sex Tape barely raised a titter, Dumb And Dumber To paled in comparison to the original and the less said about Let's Be Cops and A Haunted House 2, the better. As a genre, comedy can be hit-and-miss at the best of times. At the end of the day, we are all amused by different things and what makes one person keel over in fits of hysterical giggles may leave another person completely stone-faced. It's just the way it is and comedy films are always gambling on audience reaction. 2015 will no doubt be the same as 2014 in many ways. There will be side-splitting classics and laugh-free duds. Fortunately, judging by the concepts, casts, trailers and posters for many of the forthcoming comedy films this year, the outlook is promising. There's a good mix of intriguing sequels and completely original material of all shapes and sizes to satisfy our comedic needs. And no, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 isn't on the list, before you ask.
