10 Upcoming Movie Sequels We Can't Wait To See
10. 28 Years Later
Typically, the announcement of a legacy sequel will be met by groans and grumbles. We didn't need Anchorman 2, Zoolander 2, or Space Jam: A New Legacy. However, there is hope for some.
28 Days Later released over 20 years ago in 2002, and followed Cillian Murphy's Jim as he battled through a zombified world. The sequel, 28 Weeks Later, took the story away from Jim, and away from director Danny Boyle, and couldn't quite live up to what came before. Now, after two decades, Boyle and Murphy, as well as original screenwriter Alex Garland, will reunite for 28 Years Later, a direct sequel to the first movie that will pick up Jim's story.
Aside from featuring the most recent Academy Award winner for Best Actor, Murphy will be joined by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and more in what will ultimately be the first entry in a new franchise full of potential.
The sequel, 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, has already been confirmed. Nia DaCosta, fresh off the back of the fun and incredibly underrated The Marvels will direct, while producer Andrew Mcdonald is hopeful of a threequel to come.
Legacy sequels are risky, as is plotting a whole trilogy before the first film even releases, and the zombie market has become much more saturated since 2002. Still, 28 Years Later has the potential to overcome all of this.
