10 Upcoming Movie Sequels We STILL Can't Believe Are Real

6. I Am Legend 2

Considering that the Will Smith-starring post-apocalyptic horror film I Am Legend grossed almost $600 million back in 2007, there was always going to be interest in a follow-up, even though Smith's protagonist, Dr. Robert Neville, perished at the end.

As early as 2008, a prequel was in development which would have allowed Smith to return, but by May 2011 original director Francis Lawrence revealed that the project was no longer being worked on.

Various attempts were made to get another I Am Legend up and running in the decade that followed, until I Am Legend 2 was officially announced in 2022, with Smith set to reprise his role alongside Michael B. Jordan, and Akiva Goldsman returning to write the script.

Here's where things get interesting though - it will be a direct sequel to the original film which follows on from its alternate ending where Neville actually survives.

It's certainly an odd move to ditch the existing continuity which most casual viewers have actually seen in favour of an - admittedly superior - alternate ending only a small portion of people are even aware of.

However, Warner Bros. likely considers it far less of a financial gamble than making the movie without Smith at all.

Steven Caple Jr (Creed II) is currently in the mix to direct the sequel, and while we haven't heard much about I Am Legend 2 over the past year, Smith did confirm that Jordan won't be playing his son, but rather the leader of a new human settlement in Connecticut.
