10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
10. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum
Back in May, it was announced that the next live-action Lord of the Rings film would be The Hunt for Gollum, a prequel revolving around the title character, with Peter Jackson set to produce while Andy Serkis will both star and direct.
But the response from many fans was one of patent disinterest - as brilliant a character as Gollum is, were many angling for a prequel origin story?
The original Rings trilogy did a fantastic job of giving us everything we needed to know about him, and so it's tough to view this new film as anything more than a craven cash-grab.
With an expedited release date set for 2026 despite the script still being in the early stages, this certainly feels like a rushed production, especially given its effects-heavy nature.
Between all this and the fanbase's sharply divided response to the ongoing Amazon Prime TV series, live-action Lord of the Rings isn't in a great spot right now, and so all but the series' most dedicated fans may ultimately decide to just sit this one out.
