10 Upcoming Movies That Have Just Been Delayed
3. The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum
Ever since the end of arguably the closest thing to a perfect trilogy the film industry will ever see, audiences have returned to Middle-earth on multiple occasions. There was The Hobbit trilogy, The Rings of Power TV series, and most recently, the animated feature, The War of the Rohirrim. This list will be added to in the near future.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will not only see the return of Andy Serkis' Sméagol, set between the events of Bilbo's birthday party and when Gollum's eyes are first seen by audiences in the Mines of Moria, but the man himself will be in the director's chair.
Originally set to release in December 2026, the picture has now been delayed a full year until December 2027, keeping the streak alive of every Lord of the Rings theatrical release coming around the Christmas period.
According to Serkis earlier in 2025, the writing process was just beginning, and filming had not started, leading to the understandable delay. Particularly in the case of a movie based around Gollum, this production needs to take whatever steps necessary to ensure it doesn't share the same fate as the Gollum video game, and if it has to be delayed for this to happen, then so be it.
