While it's often said that the era of the movie star is over and general audiences don't care about actors anymore, it's tough to deny that a stacked cast is an easy way to get people excited about a new film.

Sure, it doesn't always pan out and we sometimes end up with something like last year's Amsterdam, but often a huge ensemble cast is a fair indication that a movie's script packs some serious punch.

That, or as in the case of so many superhero movies, it's a gravy train that even the most celebrated actor can't resist clambering aboard.

And so, we come to these 10 upcoming movies, all of which tout the most mesmerisingly potent, deep, and downright awesome casts imaginable.

Whether due to the talented allure of the filmmaker in charge, the iconic source material, or a fat payday, these movies wound up with some of the finest casts that their respective genres have ever seen.

It of course remains to be seen whether each movie will live up to the hype, but with so many talented and famous names in front of the camera, they won't be lacking for star wattage...

10. Asteroid City

Wes Anderson isn't exactly a stranger to amassing colossal ensemble casts for his movies, and given how many actors return to work with him every single time, his cabal of regular performers are often likened to a travelling acting troupe.

But for his new movie Asteroid City, Anderson has truly gone above and beyond, assembling an eye-wateringly star-studded cast which easily stands as his most extensive and celebrated to date.

Asteroid City counts over 20 name actors among its cast, who between them have five Oscar wins and 20 Oscar nominations. Here we go:

Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum.

While it's reasonable to assume that most of these actors will only appear for a small handful of scenes, it'll still be a delight to see them sharing the screen together. And above all else, Tom Hanks in a Wes Anderson movie? Let's go.

Ironically, though, Anderson's most prolific collaborator, Bill Murray, won't be appearing in the film, due to contracting COVID-19 shortly before he was meant to film his scenes.
