If by some miracle Gambit manages to make its 2016 release date (something that's looking more and more unlikely after all that behind the scenes drama), then there's still not necessarily a huge chance that it's going to actually end up being good. The whole thing just feels like a bad idea, and the fact that X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner pretty much only pushed for Fox to make it because Channing Tatum expressed interest in the role during a random interview points to the movie being made for all the wrong reasons. It's simply not a necessary addition to the X-Men Universe when other characters deserve the spotlight more. Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) as director is admittedly one positive, as is the fact that Gambit's creator Chris Claremont provided the story treatment. However, the writer of X-Men: Days Of Future Past teaming up with the director of Chronicle for Fantastic Four also appeared to be an amazing idea for a time, and we all know how that turned out! Right now, it's hard to find a comments section anywhere on the internet with a lot of enthusiasm for Fox's plans for Gambit, and it's very easy to picture Channing Tatum with a Cajun accent being utterly horrendous and this ill-advised movie being an even bigger let down than everyone expects.
