10 Ways To Reinvent The Batman Film Franchise After The Dark Knight Rises

2. Bring Back Camp

I€™m not actually suggesting this is a good idea, but perhaps the only possible turn around after Nolan€™s uber-realistic approach is to tone things down a level to the knowing kitsch of both the 60€™s TV show and Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin. The only other way to go is in the opposite direction by making big-screen Batman even darker, yet it€™s hard to see Warner Bros allowing a director to push the series any further into the boundaries of the essential PG-13/12a rating than Nolan - and an infamous pencil trick - already have. So perhaps the way forward will be toning down the moody realism of Nolan€™s films by returning to a family friendly adventure, in which Jim Carrey can roam free like a hyperactive children€™s entertainer and everything is lit with bright pink neon. I€™ll be honest, a small part of me would love to see Nolan€™s ultra-serious universe completely torn apart by the unstoppable force of camp. Imagine Christian Bale€™s moody glare after being neglected to wearing a perky Bat-nippled costume and delivering lines like €œI€™ll get drive-thru€, and you€™ve got something unmissable.
