10 Worst Actors To Ever Win An Oscar

By Shaun Munro /

3. Halle Berry

It's difficult to divorce Halle Berry's Oscar win for Monster's Ball - easily her best performance to date if not deserving the gong - from the absurdly patronising and overwrought acceptance speech that she gave following it, but nevertheless, Berry is an actress who managed to strike gold but has not been remarkable, or really even good, in anything before or since. Sure, she's serviceable in Hollywood fare like Swordfish and X-Men, but try and name a role in which she really demonstrated dramatic chops, and you'll struggle. Even when she does try, it appears to misfire, going by her recent Frankie and Alice, which went on to become an unintentionally hilarious, maudlin, Oscar-baiting drama that didn't even get UK distribution in the end. Though she demonstrates a little more promise in Cloud Atlas, it's not enough to erase or even temper her more calamitous career choices, namely the likes of Gothika, Dark Tide and Catwoman.
