47. The Wolverine

Ok, yes, The Wolverine goes completely to s**t in its final act, but for the first two-thirds it actually delivers on making a good solo Wolverine movie, and contains a number of elements that James Mangold and Hugh Jackman would perfect with Logan.

Jackman’s in great form as a wearier version of Wolverine, and he and Mangold plunge him into a fascinating situation as he loses his powers, complete with existential dread and some gorgeous production design. Add in a few strong action sequences, and you’ve got a movie that, although it doesn’t quite work as well it might’ve done, is a solid X-outing nonetheless that helps make up for the disastrous Origins.
