11 Action-Horror Movies To Get Your Blood Pumping
11. Army Of Darkness (1992)
The original Evil Dead in particular used inventive props and special effects under a tight budget to create a gory, shocking, but also whimsical movie. The playful nature of the series has continued throughout, and the Evil Dead films were almost excluded from this list for that very reason, they are in many ways comedy horrors. However, Army of Darkness introduces a new aspect to the series.
Without a doubt, the intention when making this sequel was to remove any seriousness, sending Ash back in time to a kingdom under siege by skeletal monsters. With a chainsaw strapped to his arm and Boomstick on the other, Ash's adventures continue with a bang.
With this film, the series delved into adventure territory. Part of the film has Ash dropped into an underground cell, struggling to escape and facing off against monsters, not totally unlike watching Luke Skywalker being dropped into the Rancor pit. The film has a distinctly different tone to those preceding it, and becomes pure amusement and entertainment, with monsters and action scenes reminiscent of Sinbad and Clash of the Titans.
