11. MCU Timeline Derailed - Spider-Man: Homecoming

Marvel Studios

The very beginning of Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place during the direct aftermath of the Battle of New York, which has always been assumed to take place in 2012.

However, that would mean the rest of the movie, which takes place 8 years later, is set in 2020, which is totally inconsistent with the timeline of Captain America: Civil War, which happens in 2016.

Obviously this makes no sense at all, and to their credit Marvel Studios have acknowledged the mistake, with studio chief Kevin Feige stating that an official, revised timeline will be released in due course.

Still, considering the movie isn't ever going away, it's pretty damn sloppy to make such a basic and glaring continuity mistake.
