11 Horror Movie Remakes Coming In 2017

4. It

Stuck in development hell since 2009, It – more a reboot/re-adaptation of Stephen King’s novel than a direct remake of the 1990 TV miniseries starring Tim Curry – was originally to be directed by Cary Fukunaga, director of the acclaimed first season of True Detective, before the torch was passed to Argentinian filmmaker Andrés Muschietti.

The film features a screenplay that’s been run through the hands of more scriptwriters than you can shake a stick at. Normally that wouldn’t bode too well for a movie but admittedly, the first adaptation hasn’t aged that well over the years – though if you were a young whippersnapper the first time you watched it, it’s likely you haven’t looked at a fortune cookie in the same way since – and with Muschietti in charge, who showed a flare for horror with his feature film debut Mama, the It reboot could actually fare quite well.

Of course, nobody could ever top Tim Curry’s deliciously evil turn as Pennywise – those are some big (clown) shoes to fill indeed.
