11 Huge Issues That Might Ruin The DC Cinematic Universe

2. Jared Leto's Joker Will Divide Audiences

One of the more intriguing movies on the DCCU slate is Suicide Squad, which features a band of villains teaming up for a sucide mission in order to have their sentences commuted should they survive. The most prominent character of the piece is The Joker, who will be played by Jared Leto. Superb though that casting is, anyone playing the Clown Prince of Crime is going to be severely judged next to Heath Ledger's unforgettable portrayal in The Dark Knight, and rather unfairly, there's just very little chance of it being well received by fickle and picky comic book fans. The smartest thing Leto and writer-director David Ayer can do is to depict a Joker that's completely opposed to Ledger's gritty, grungy take: make him more outlandish and cartoonish, so that to even compare to the two is to basically miss the point. Even if his work is brilliant, there will be a lot of whining about it.
