The Role: Carrie Fisher's final appearance in the Star Wars franchise as General Leia Organa, following her unexpected death late last year.
Why She Might Win: There's little word on exactly how big Fisher's role in the movie will be, but the outpouring of grief surrounding her death could easily help propel her to a posthumous Best Supporting Actress nomination and even a win, all the more so if much of her screen time revolves around the heartbreak of Han Solo's death (there's gotta be a funeral scene, right?).
Furthermore, considering that Fisher never received an Oscar nomination in her lifetime, this would be a fantastic way to recognise her.
Why It's Unexpected: Fisher's role in The Force Awakens was rather small and most are probably expecting something similarly-sized here, which combined with the sudden nature of Fisher's death makes this one all kinds of shocking.
