11 Ways Suicide Squad Needs To Set Up Future DC Movies

9. Let Deadshot Get Away

The idea of WIll Smith dying in Suicide Squad was always going to be ridiculous: he's too big a star, his potential for a spin-off is too great and he probably wouldn't have allowed it himself.

Far more fitting would be to have Deadshot - who appears to have the most humanity of all of the Squad members - redeem himself during the mission to such a degree that Rick Flag realises he's not actually that bad a guy. That could then lead to a The Rock like situation where Nic Cage let Sean Connery and his awful wig escape because crime is easily forgotten when bromance blossoms.

That then allows Deadshot to potentially appear in a future Batman movie (or even to be a secondary antagonist in the sequel), or in spin-off. You know, the kind of thing Smith's profile sort of demands.

The Hints

It looks pretty likely that Deadshot and Rick Flag will develop a begrudging respect for each other by the end of the film, and I absolutely wouldn't have put it past Ayer to write in a heroic sacrifice for Flag and an escape for Deadshot. It just fits.
