9. Tom Hanks And A Slobbery Dog (Turner And Hooch)
Though these days he is one of the world's most acclaimed dramatic actors, it wasnt until his back-to-back Oscar wins for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump that Tom Hanks career began to take such a direction. Before their success, he was best known for his roles in a string of light-hearted films in the 1980s, many of which were terrible. One of the better (though I use the term loosely) entries in his early filmography is Turner and Hooch, a film that sees his character, Turner, a tidy police investigator, take in Hooch, a messy dog, following the murder of his friend. In typical 80s movie fashion, hilarity ensues, though the film has its share of emotional moments as well. Released in 1989, the film was in cinemas at around the same time as the James Belushi-starring K9, which had a similar plot, and was followed six years later by Top Dog, another film with a similar premise, albeit starring Chuck Norris. Turner and Hooch remains the most successful of the lot, however.
