12 Actors Who Basically Guarantee You Make A Flop

By Jack Pooley /

10. Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig has had a number of hit movies in recent years, such as Munich, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Tintin, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Skyfall. Notice a pattern? Craig is what we call a "franchise or bust" actor, in that outside of an established franchise (with the exception of Munich, which sold itself on Oscar buzz and Spielberg directing), he just can't open a movie. Don't believe us? Just check out this list of his flops over the last 10 years. His misses include Layer Cake, Enduring Love, The Jacket, Infamous, Renaissance (admittedly in a voice-only role), The Invasion, The Golden Compass (which was a tremendous box office disappointment), Flashbacks of a Fool, Defiance, Cowboys and Aliens (another huge flop) and Dream House. Why Is He A Flop? As much as we hate to say it, outside of the James Bond role Craig isn't the most exhilarating of actors. He's extremely handsome and looks good on a poster, but he's also picked a pretty poor selection of parts outside of his hit blockbusters, so it's entirely possible the movies would have flopped with plenty of other actors as well. Since the billion-dollar success of Skyfall, though, perhaps Craig might enjoy a better time with his non-franchise work, even if he currently doesn't have anything slated beyond Bond 24.
