4. Don't Breathe
Fede Alvarez's intense horror film was one of 2016's most acclaimed indie genre romps, grossing more than 15-times its $10 million budget, which immediately sparked interest in a sequel.
This story feels so tightly self-contained, though, that it's hard to believe a follow-up would be anything more than a contrived attempt to milk the cash cow for a cheeky second go-around.
How Likely Is It?: Last year, Alvarez confirmed that a sequel is in the works, though that of course doesn't mean it will ever actually happen.
Though producer Sam Raimi claims, "it's only the greatest idea for a sequel [he's] ever heard", it's easy to imagine this one languishing in development hell forever more, especially if Alvarez's next movie, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, reignites interest in the Millennium series and keeps him busy.
Maybe, maybe not, basically. 5/10
