It's official: Blade Runner 2049 is a box office bomb. Made for around $170 million, the long-awaited sci-fi sequel is going to struggle to crack $250 million worldwide, currently sitting at around the $230 million mark.

Factoring in the film's massive marketing push and Warner Bros.' expectation that huge hype and excellent reviews would propel it to at least $350 million, it's extremely disappointing to see such a great movie perform so horribly.

It is somewhat apt, of course, given the original 1982 film bombing upon release and later becoming one of the most iconic movies of all time.

However, it's hard not to roll your eyes at 2049's poor business considering the glut of horrendous sequels which have effortlessly destroyed it at the box office, despite lacking even an ounce of the artistry, ingenuity or emotion packed into Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi masterpiece.

These sequels had audiences smacking their heads and wondering how they made as much money as they did, not to mention how they even got made in the first place. At least Blade Runner 2049 is an artful tour de force that's going to stand the test of time, whereas these 12 movies are just low-effort trash churned out for a quick buck...
