Bullitt reunites The Magnificent Sevens Steve McQueen with Robert Vaughn and gives them 2 of their best roles, with Vaughn playing a slimy politician who sends McQueens ice-cool cop to guard a witness, little realizing he has him guarding the wrong man. If you want to know why they call McQueen the King Of Cool, this is the movie to watch. So calm and controlled he makes Clint Eastwood look unsubtle, he doesnt need to shout or throw furniture in order to get your attention. If he wants to own a scene, all he has to do is enter it. Special mention has to be made of Bullitts car chase, which after nearly 50 years still holds up as one of the all-time greats. Bear in mind, this was before The French Connection, The Blues Brothers et al, so when people say they dont shoot action sequences as well as they used to, this is the scene theyre referring to.
