The first of two Samuel L Jackson entries on this list. (I think you might be able to guess the second). What makes this monologue so good is not necessary the dialogue spoken, (though Jackson delivers it with his usual almighty gusto), but what immediately follows it. Delivering a rousing speech about human survival, backed by an equally rousing musical score, Jackson's Russell Franklin shows our frightened heroes that man will always succeed over nature. Our heroes, tired and defeated, watch with awe as Franklin unites them with a tale of hope, of survival...and is immediately consumed by a badass shark, all the more badass than Mr. Jackson himself. This monologue is the ultimate example of delivering something wholly unexpected. Sure it's silly. Sure it's over the top. But it did leave audiences with their mouths hanging open in disbelief.
