IMDB is one of the old dinosaurs of the Internet, and though many film lovers prefer to gauge movies by Rotten Tomatoes' critical consensus or the decades-old Cinemascore system, IMDB's user scores do carry a huge amount of weight with the average moviegoer.

The fact that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has already racked up close to 200,000 votes is proof enough that IMDB's numerical scores mean something, and if a film does well enough, it might even win a place in the coveted IMDB Top 250 (as Coco, Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, Logan and Thor: Ragnarok already have this year).

However, sometimes an IMDB score is so eyebrow-raisingly off the mark, so divorced from the critical consensus, that you wonder how such a huge contingent of audiences arrived at that figure.

In the case of these 12 movies, whether unconscionably terrible or actually pretty decent, each proudly touts a suspiciously high IMDB score, which isn't at all indicative of their quality, especially when compared to other equivalent movies on the website.

Sure, it's just a number, but to Joe Public, it really means something, and will surely help shape their own viewing habits...
