12 Biggest Box Office Flops Of 2017 (So Far)

12. Power Rangers

The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show was a strange beast. Put together from a mix of stock footage from Japan’s Super Sentai TV series and new footage of its young American cast, it was a camp, silly and often nonsensical but nevertheless a fun and inoffensive watch for ‘90s kids.

The 2017 Power Rangers reboot unfortunately carried over none of its predecessor’s camp charm. Apart from being batsh*t insane and including a few contemporary popular culture references like sexting and slut shaming, the reboot does very little in the way of either staying true to its source material or bringing anything new to it.

Even Bryan Cranston – who funnily enough voiced a couple of the original TV show’s monster villains back in the day – as the Power Rangers’ mentor Zordon couldn’t save the movie. While it was by no means the biggest flop of 2017 so far, its $140.2 million gross doesn’t look so good next to its $100 million production budget.
