The Lie

When Obi-Wan passes on Anakin's lightsaber to Luke, he claims that his father wanted him to have it:

"Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damned-fool idealistic crusade like your father did."

This is full of lies, and a weird, needless romanticism of the truth.

The Truth

When exactly did Anakin tell Obi-Wan he wanted his lightsaber passed on to the son he thought was dead? When he was on fire? After he'd just chopped off all of his limbs?

Also, Obi-Wan didn't meet Luke's uncle, so their imaginary conversation about Luke following Kenobi is an incredibly odd thing to bring up. And on top of that, Anakin didn't follow Obi-Wan on any "idealistic crusade", he followed his initial master Qui-Gon.

Leave it to a meme to offer the best interpretation of what Obi-Wan was ACTUALLY saying here (and the probable reason for him not wanting to tell the truth)...
