3. Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz) - Alita: Battle Angel
Robert Rodriguez's upcoming manga adaptation is pretty much destined to bomb at the box office regardless of how good (or bad) it is, and as sure as its financial failure is set in stone, so too is the all-but-inevitable death of Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz).
From what we've seen so far, it doesn't seem like the movie Ido is going to be a particularly faithful adaptation of his paperback counterpart - a far younger, more physically capable character named Daisuke Ido - and will pretty much boil him down to a fairly generic mentor for cyborg protagonist Alita (Rosa Salazar).
And what could cater better to the demands of a popcorn-munching audience than having Ido end up dead, quite probably at the hand of cyborg assassin Zapan (Ed Skrein), mid-way through the movie?
It's a classic element of the hero's journey, and just makes too much sense not to happen.
