10. General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) - Star Wars: Episode IX
It's been almost two years since Carrie Fisher passed away, and yet, the fate of her General Leia is still left somewhat in limbo until the release of Star Wars: Episode IX next Christmas.
We know that unused footage of Fisher from The Last Jedi will be used somehow in Episode IX, though there hasn't yet been any confirmation of the character's fate.
Many fans have quite reasonably speculated that the movie may simply begin with Leia's death being announced in the title crawl, possibly followed by a funeral scene, leading to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) taking over as the leader of the Resistance.
The recent Poe Dameron comics - which are canon, by the way - hint at Leia's exposure to the vacuum of space causing irreversible damage to her health, which would quite conveniently allow her to pass away between movies.
There's no easy way to write out such a statuesque character off-screen, but Leia's death is really just a practical inevitability at this point.
