5. Henry Was Dead The Whole Time - Last Christmas
Paul Feig's Yuletide-themed rom-com Last Christmas revolves around the meet-cute between self-confessed trainwreck Kate (Emilia Clarke) and a charming stranger she crosses paths with, Tom (Henry Golding).
The film's ending reveals that Kate, who was previously mentioned to have had a heart transplant, actually received the heart belonging to Tom, who had previously died in a traffic accident.
That's right - Tom was a hallucination the whole time as a result of her receiving his heart, quite literally adapting the lyrics of Wham!'s hit song "Last Christmas," namely, "Last Christmas I gave you my heart." Oof.
On one hand it's a twist absurd enough to be mildly amusing, but as an earnest attempt to wring emotion from the audience, it was also totally braindead.
